Iran vows to stand by Syria in face of threats

Xinhua, May 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran will continue its support to the Syrian government in face of threats, semi-official Mehr news agency cited Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying Saturday.

Hossein Jaber Ansari reiterated Iran's position of political solution to Syria crisis, adding that Iran will continue providing military advisory services to Syrian government and army "as long as foreign intervention continues on the ground in Syria."

Last week, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said that 13 of its military advisers had been killed in clashes in the town of Khan Tuman, south of the Syrian province of Aleppo.

The IRGC said in a statement that 21 other Iranians were wounded in the clashes.

Iran, a major regional ally of the Syrian government in its fight against the militant groups, earlier announced the presence of its military advisers in Syria. Endit
