-- Zambia's main opposition leader has petitioned the country's Constitutional Court to declare that the offices of vice-president and ministers stand vacant following the dissolution of parliament on May 11 until a new president assumes office after the August 11 general election.

-- Zambia's main sugar producer, Zambia Sugar Plc, said it expects to cut down exports to the EU this year due to low prices. Rebecca Katowa, the company's managing director said the idea was to move volumes away from the EU into the regional markets because the prices within the region were expected to remain above world levels.

Last year, the company exported about 22 percent of its sugar to the EU and 37 percent went to the regional market. (Times of Zambia)
