Japan's Abe sounds out Kuwaiti counterpart on issues of terrorism, refugee crisis, ahead of G7

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks Thursday with the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on a number of topics spanning terrorism and the refugee crisis.

Abe's officials said the Japanese leader was hoping to hear from his Kuwaiti counterpart about issues of terrorism and militant organizations such as the Islamic State in the Middle East, at their meeting in Tokyo.

Abe also wanted to traverse issues of the Syrian war-linked refugee crisis with his guest, with both issues pertinent to topics that will be central themes of the Group of Seven summit to be hosted by Abe here later this month.

Regarding Japan's economic proposals, Abe's officials said the prime minister would recommend Japanese products and infrastructural services and know-how to help Kuwait reach its ongoing national redevelopment targets.

With Japan being a major recipient of oil from Kuwait, energy issues were also likely discussed between the pair, officials said.

Jaber's three-day trip to Japan will conclude on Friday. Endit
