Customs officers at Yanji Airport in northeast China's Jilin Province have seized over 1,500 cosmetic injection vials from a passenger attempting to bring them into the country illegally.
Announcing the seizure on Thursday, the officers said an X-ray scan identified an abnormality in the boxes of a passenger from the Republic of Korea (ROK) on April 28.
They opened the boxes and found 1,529 vials containing hyaluronic acid and Botox, all without Chinese labels and dates of manufacture and expiration. They were also undeclared, according to the officers.
The passenger was fined 7,000 yuan (1,073 U.S. dollars) and the goods were ordered to be returned to the ROK.
Customs officers have been on the lookout for smuggling of materials for cosmetic treatments as demand is on the rise in China. Endi
