Somalia forces seize arms cache from Al-Shabaab militants

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

A cache of weapons was seized from Al-Shabaab militants by Somalia security forces on Wednesday in Bula Hawa district that is near the Kenyan border.

Officials in the region displayed the arms seized from Al-Shabaab militants.

The seized arms included seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs), five mobile phones and several rounds of ammunition.

Deputy Minister for Interior Coordination in the semi-autonomous Jubaland region, Hassan Abdinoor, said the seized weapons could have been used by Al-Shabaab militants to cause havoc in the Kenyan county of Mandera, Bula Hawa and Dholo region in Somalia.

He said the security forces from Kenya and Somalia have intensified crackdown on Al-Shabaab militants and their financiers to degrade their capacity to launch new attacks targeting civilians.

"We are collaborating with members of the public to help identify Al-Shabaab kingpins based in Somalia and along the border with Kenya," said Abdinoor. Endit
