China supports dialogue with the United States on cybersecurity, a spokesperson said Thursday after representatives from both countries met in Washington to discuss international cyberspace rules.
"China is willing to make cybersecurity cooperation a new highlight of bilateral relations," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a regular news briefing.
After reaching a consensus on cybersecurity, China and the United States are trying to build trust and cooperate, a sign that both sides acknowledge their mutual interests and shared challenges and responsibilities, Lu said.
Chinese and U.S. officials from various departments, including defense and the Foreign Ministry, attended the meeting Wednesday to discuss international norms of state behavior, international law and confidence-building.
It was the first meeting of the Senior Experts Group on International Norms and Related Issues, a mechanism agreed on last September. A second meeting will be held within six months. Endi
