Central African states mulls common regional market

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) plans to set up a common regional market in the Central Africa region, a source from the sub-regional organization said Wednesday.

The source said the issue will be discussed by a technical committee of experts from ECCAS region who will be meeting during the institution's ministerial council forum to be held on May 13, 2016 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo capital.

They said a common market will be set up over a period of ten years through a progressive process of trade liberalization as well as elimination of trade barriers between member states.

The African Union has set 2017 as the deadline for establishment of a Continental Free Trade Area. The process will facilitate economic integration of the African continent. Endit
