Kenya urges African audit institutions to embrace competence

Xinhua, May 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kenya on Wednesday called on audit institutions in Africa to promote greater efficiency and effectiveness among public and private institutions.

Kenya's Deputy President William Ruto said improving the quality and effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control processes is critical to advancing organizational success.

"Auditors, both external and internal, have a critical role to play in the restructuring of African and the global economies," Ruto said during the opening of the 3rd African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors International Conference.

He said auditing was critical to keeping organizations faithful to their strategic objectives. The DP said efficiency will also enable institutions to meet the needs and expectations as well as providing quality services to the citizens.

The Deputy President said auditors have the capacity to change the narrative that portrays Africa as a continent steeped in poverty, corruption and disease to a better one by helping institutions minimize wastage and misuse of resources.

He challenged auditors to continually upgrade their skills to offer Africa consistent and sophisticated advisory and assurance services.

He said Kenya recognizes the vital role played by auditors in providing assurance of appropriate governance, risk management, internal controls and good business practices.

"This means that internal auditors can help institutions obtain a holistic and accurate view of their activities by helping to properly implement the entity's strategic objectives," he said. Endit
