Supporters of DR Congo opposition leader dispersed by police

Xinhua, May 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) police on Wednesday used tear gas to disperse thousands of supporters of ex-Katanga governor Moise Katumbi.

Katumbi was set to appear before the prosecutor for the second time to be questioned on allegations of recruiting foreign mercenaries in the former Katanga province.

"We demand that the hearing must be in public, and this time, Obama will need to be informed of Katumbi's situation," some of his supporters said.

After his entry into Lubumbashi court house, police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the large crowd that had gathered around the building.

Katumbi was first questioned over the same matter on Monday by prosecutor Mikobi Minga, before being allowed to return home. The opposition leader is represented by a team of lawyers led by Me Azarias Ruberwa. Endit
