Update: 2 extremists killed, 16 arrested in Tunisia security operation

Xinhua, May 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tunisian counter-terrorism units killed two armed extremists and arrested 16 others on Wednesday in Menihla near capital Tunis, following "a complex security operation," according to the Interior Ministry.

The National Guard agents also succeeded in confiscating a significant amount of weapons and ammunition held by the suspects, who were hiding in a house in the Menihla neighborhood, district of Ariana.

According to the local media, several of the suspects were wanted by the security force. They are, to be said, connected to the armed attack in Ben Guerdane in March this year.

On March 7, at least 55 people were killed, including 12 security agents and seven civilians, when tens of militants attacked several security facilities in southern town of Ben Guerdane, near Libyan borders. Endit
