15 Al-Shabaab militants killed in central Somalia

t least 15 Al-Shabaab militants were killed and weapons recovered on Wednesday in a joint security operation at an area close to Galcad town in Galgudud region in central Somalia.

Governor of Galcad town, Qadar Muhumed Ali told journalists that it was a special operation carried out by Somalia National Army (SNA) backed African Union peacekeeping mission (AMISOM) forces against Al-Shabaab militants in the region and ended successfully.

"Somali government's Special Forces together with Amisom carried out the operation at Cel-timir location close to Galcad town here in Galgudud region. The forces killed 15 Al-Shabaab fighters including three senior commanders who are known in this region, one of them used to be head of this town. We recovered 15 guns in a successful operation," Muhumed said.

The mayor added that the situation in the area is calm and is under the joint forces' control at the moment. Al-Shabaab militants did not comment on the latest military victory by government officials so far.

Somali National Army backed by AMISOM troops captured Galcad town on April 29 from the militant group without any resistance. Endit
