Vietnamese woman and Malaysian lover arrested for human trafficking

Xinhua, May 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

A 26-year-old woman from Vietnam's southern Tay Ninh province and her 39-year-old Malaysian lover were arrested by the provincial police on Wednesday for having cheated Vietnamese girls to Malaysia to work as prostitutes.

The detainees are Nguyen Kim Ngan and Kim Eng Hoe. Ngan came to Malaysia in 2013 to work in a bar, being a prostitute herself and co-habitating with Hoe, online Vietnamese newspaper VnExpress reported.

A Malaysian bar owner said he would pay Ngan and her lover 3-4 million Vietnamese dong (2.2 million U.S. dollars = 100 U.S. dollars) for each Vietnamese girl they brought to Malaysia.

Ngan and Hoe told Vietnamese girls that if they came to Malaysia to work in restaurants, they would receive a monthly salary of some 20 million Vietnamese dong.

However, when the girls came to Malaysia, they were forced to work as prostitutes with low pays.

After receiving complaints of Vietnamese victims, Tay Ninh Police coordinated with Malaysian agencies to rescue the girls and brought them home.

According to initial investigations, Ngan and her lover had trafficked nine Vietnamese young women to Malaysia until her arrest. Endit
