Afghan forces smash al-Qaida cell, set free son of former Pakistani Premier

Afghan security forces following operations backed by the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in the eastern Paktika smashed a cell of al-Qaida network and recovered the son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Sayed Yusuf Reza Gilani and set him free, said a statement of Arg or Presidential Palace released here on Tuesday.

"The joint of operations of Afghan security forces and international troops in Paktika province dismantled an al-Qaida base and freed Ali Haider Gilani the son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Sayed Yusuf Reza Gilani," the statement said.

Afghan government after recovery and release of Ali Haider Gilani from the clutch of the terrorists handed him over to Pakistan embassy in Kabul on Tuesday, the statement further said.

Armed people from Multan city of Pakistan abducted Ali Haider Gilani in May 2013, according to media reports and since then no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction. Enditem
