Tokyo shares open higher on soft yen

Tokyo shares opened slightly higher on Tuesday on the yen's retreat against other major currencies which helped lift export-related issues.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 50.82 points, or 0.31 percent, from Monday to 16,266.85.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.25 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,308.91. Endit
