Paraguay names Copa America squad

Xinhua, May 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Paraguay coach Ramon Diaz has included veterans Justo Villar, Roque Santa Cruz and Paulo Da Silva in his 23-man squad for next month's Copa America in the United States.

But there was no place for Udinese fullback Ivan Piris, Roma striker Tonny Sanabria or Palmeiras forward Lucas Barrios.

As expected, Deportivo Toluca midfielder Rodrigo Ortiz, failed to make the squad due to a knee ligament injury.

Paraguay was one of the surprise teams at last year's Copa America in Chile, eliminating Brazil en route to a place in the semifinals, where they fell to Argentina.

Diaz's team will open the 2016 Copa America campaign against Costa Rica in Orlando on June 4. Their remaining group matches will be against Colombia in Pasadena on June 7 and the US in Philadelphia four days later.
