The coach of Argentina's national soccer team, Gerardo Martino, said the Argentine squad should win 2016 Centennial Copa America tournament, to be held in the United States from June 3 to 26.
According to Mexican sports daily Cancha, Martino said "the players are my thermometer. And this thermometer says we are on the right path, trying to improve and compete, with the dream of hosting a great competition like the Copa America in the future."
"We are going to seek the same thing the Argentinian team seeks in every competition: to win the title, because if we do not win then the media appears and we will have to put up with them throughout our long journey," said Martino, whose team was runner-up last year in Copa America after losing to host Chile in the final.
"The thermometer inside is ours and we ourselves know it regarding the decisions we have to make which always stays hidden inside but we also have to show the external one, which is not in our hands or managed by us," added Martino.
The Argentine coach also said that 2016 Centennial Copa America is a great opportunity to compete and to try to reach the title, that this edition is a different story from the previous one where the team lost.
Martino referred to stars Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, both players from Spain's Barcelona. He said as players for Barcelona, they have two great challenges after being eliminated from UEFA's Champions League - they have to face Spain's Copa del Rey tournament and try to reach the league's championship.
Messi will be joining the national team for Copa America, according to Martino. Endit
