Jordan, Russia discuss latest developments in Syria's Aleppo

Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Friday discussed over phone the latest developments in Syria, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

During a phone call Friday, Judeh and the Russian foreign minister talked about the latest developments in Aleppo and the need to implement the cease-fire, especially in Aleppo and Syria in general.

The two sides stressed on the need to support all efforts leading to a political solution and their keenness to continue coordination between the two countries.

In this regard, Judeh stressed on Jordan's commitment and support to a comprehensive political solution in Syria that includes all the Syrian people to end the violence in the country.

Lavrov stressed the key role Jordan plays in efforts to attain peace and stability in the region and the world.

Russia on Friday urged strict observance of cease-fire in the war-ravaged Syrian city of Aleppo and an uncompromising struggle against terrorist groups that violate truce in Syria.

A 48-hour truce sponsored by Russia and the United States, which started in Aleppo at 1:00 a.m. Thursday (2300 GMT Wednesday), was put in place to calm the troubled city that has witnessed raging violence in the past few weeks.

Fierce violence in and around Aleppo has killed more than 280 civilians since April 22. Endit
