Zambia records reduced tax collection due to power cuts

Xinhua, May 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Zambian government said on Friday that its revenue collection from companies has reduced, affecting the implementation of various programs.

Inonge Wina, the country's vice-president said tax collection from industries has reduced due to a power deficit that has seen the power utility to ratio power to its customers.

Responding to questions in parliament during a vice-president's question and answer session, she said the poor deficit has affected industries that were failing to operate at optimal levels.

She further said collection of revenue from the mining industry, the country's economic mainstay, has been affected by a drop in prices of copper on the international market.

She however said despite the decline in revenue collection, the government was not broke as it has managed to implement some programs it had initiated.

According to her, the government has not failed to implement various projects it initiated, adding that it still remains committed to finish the programs. Endit
