Xinhua, April 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on returned Friday home after medical trip to Switzerland last week where he underwent routine medical checkups, the official APS news agency reported, citing a statement of the president's office.

"President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has returned to the country on Friday," according to the brief statement.

The last time the 79-year old president flew abroad was in December, 2015, when he was rushed to France for periodical medical check-ups he undergoes since the transient ischemic attack he suffered in April 2013.

Bouteflika makes rare public appearances due to his health troubles, while the opposition parties have been calling him to resign and convene early elections.
