Extreme sailing yachts finish only one round in Day One in Qingdao

Xinhua, April 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight yachts only managed to finish one round race in the first day of Qingdao events in the 2016 ISAF Extreme Sailing Series on Friday, as the wind became weaker and weaker.

The wind speed didn't reach 20 knots as it had been forecasted on the afternoon of Friday, and it even lowered to only one knot for a time, according to the spokesperson of the organizing committee.

Land Rover BAR Academy cliched the gold in this round, as Sail Portugal and Alinghi crossed the finish line with the runner-up and the bronze.

"We are disappointed with only one round race in the first day, but we look forward to the coming two days," said Bleddyn Môn, skipper of the champion yacht of Day One.

"Wind speed of Qingdao is always unpredictable," Bleddyn Mon said. "It is five knots now and it could become 20 knots very soon."

The Act 2 of the 2016 ISAF Extreme Sailing Series will be held in Qingdao from April 29 to May 2.

After finishing the Qingdao events, eight teams will compete in Cardiff of Britain, Hamburg of Germany, Sait Petersburg of Russia, Istanbul of Turkey, Lisbon of Portugal and Sydney of Australia.

The yacht teams finished their first Act in Muscat of Oman in March, as the Oman Air clinched the gold. Endit
