Fresh U.S.-led airstrikes kill 24 IS militants in Afghanistan

Xinhua, April 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

About 24 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Friday in U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in eastern province of Nangarhar with Jalalabad as its capital, 120 km east of Kabul, a military statement said.

"The airstrikes were conducted in close coordination with Afghan security agencies in Dih Bala and Achin districts of Nangarhar, killing 24 armed members of IS terrorist group," Afghan Special Forces Operational Coordination Command said in the statement.

The statement added that conducting precise air raids against terror groups would ultimately weaken the activities of the terrorist networks in remote districts.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as fighting season is drawing near in the country.

Three IS fighters were killed in similar incident in Dih Bala on Thursday. The two mountainous districts have been regarded as the stronghold of IS militants.

The militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
