Afghan forces kill 21 militants including 2 commanders

Xinhua, April 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 21 Taliban militants including two local commanders were killed as joint operations of army and police are continuing in parts of Chardara district in the northern Kunduz province over the past two days, district governor Zalmai Farooqi said Thursday.

"The cleanup operations launched in Sarak-e-Bala area on Tuesday and so far 21 rebels including two local commanders Mullah Mashfaq and Shah Wali have been killed," Farooqi told Xinhua.

However, the official avoided commenting on security forces possible casualties.

Meantime, spokesman for Kunduz police Hajratullah Akbari contended that 20 more Taliban fighters had been killed and 20 others arrested over the past two days in Chardara district.

On the other hand, Zabihullah Majahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media confirmed the clash in Chardara district, claiming the militants have inflicted huge casualties to government forces.

Chardara and the neighboring Dasht-e-Archi district have been regarded as Taliban hotbed in the northern Kunduz province. Enditem
