Moderate quake strikes SW France, no casualties reported

A magnitude-5.2 earthquake on Thursday hit the southwestern French city of La Rochelle, and no immediate casualties were reported, authorities said.

It is the most powerful earthquake reported in mainland France since 2014, according to the Central French Seismic Office.

The quake, centered about 16 km inland southeast from La Rochelle, occurred at 8:46 a.m. (0646 GMT). Powerful earthquakes are rare in mainland France. Endi
