Hockey rivals to clash at Rio 2016 Games

Xinhua, April 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

This year's Olympic men's hockey tournament will begin with a clash between London 2012 silver medallists the Netherlands and reigning Pan American champions Argentina, the International Hockey Federation said on Wednesday.

The clash on August 6 will be followed by a duel between Asian champions India and European bronze medallists Ireland later the same day.

The women's event also begins on August 6, with reigning World League champions Argentina taking on the USA.

One of the highlights of the men's pool stage will be a clash between the Netherlands and Germany in a repeat of the London 2012 final on August 12.

Dutch avenged their defeat in London be thrashing Germany 6-1 in the final of the 2015 European championship last year.
