The former vice chancellor Michael Spindelegger on Wednesday told Xinhua the key point for the current ruling coalition is to boost the economy when faced with challenge of right wing in Austria.
"If you have a look at the status of Austria what we have to do is to get up economy again," Spindelegger said, when asked what's his suggestion for the current ruling parties coalition who faced with the pressure from the rising right wing party in the country.
He said if the economy is revived, there would be "more jobs and more satisfaction for people."
The free party (FPO) made its historic victory in the first round of presidential election on Sunday. It's the first time since 1945, Austria is not to elect a president backed by either Chancellor Werner Faymann's Social Democrats (SPO) or their centre-right coalition partner People's Party (OVP).
Spindelegger, also served as the former OVP leader, believes that the refugee crisis also is linked with the rise of the right wing for this moment.
"I think this is a movement at the moment in this direction, but it is very much linked to the situation last year with a lot of refugees coming to Austria, but any how, this will change also in the next years. So this is just for the moment I think such movement," said Spindelegger. Endit
