Jordan warns Israel of serious consequences amid storming of Al Aqsa Mosque

Xinhua, April 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Monday warned Israel of serious consequences as Israeli settlers and security forces broke into the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, state-run Petra news agency reported.

"The storming of the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli occupation forces and the settlers is a violation of the international laws and conventions," Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani was quoted as saying.

"Such practices will lead to serious consequences," said the minister.

The Jordanian official called on Israel to immediately stop such practices and prevent the settlers and Israeli forces from entering the yards of the mosque and allow the Palestinian worshipers to enter it, which is the third holiest site in Islam.

Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, oversees the Islamic and Christian sites in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians envisage as the capital of their future state. Endit
