About 36 militants had been killed during airstrikes and clashes with security forces across Afghanistan within the last 24 hours, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Monday.

"Some 25 militants were also wounded and five others were captured by Afghan National Security Forces during the latest military operations that were launched in 12 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces," the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan troops supported by the army's artillery and air force also found and seized weapons and ammunition besides defusing several rounds of landmines and roadside bombs, said the statement.

Furthermore, seven army personnel were also killed in separate clashes and attacks throughout the country over the same period.

A Taliban key commander was detained in northern Kunduz province overnight, an army spokesman in the region Nasratullah Jamshidi told Xinhua on Monday.

Qari Saleem, Taliban's head of military operation in Kunduz province, was captured along with six of his militants after Afghan Special Operation Forces conducted a night raid in Khan Abad District of Kunduz on Sunday, Jamshidi said.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
