Deputy UN chief to travel to European, Asian countries

UN Deputy Secreary-General Jan Eliasson on Sunday will begin a four-country trip, which will take him to Belgium, Austria, Nepal and Vietnam, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here Friday.

Eliasson will depart New York for Brussels, Belgium, on Sunday to have bilateral meetings with senior officials of the European Union, Dujarric said.

On April 26, the top UN official will travel to Vienna, Austria to attend a session of the Chief Executives Board (CEB) over the following two days and to deliver a keynote address at an event on the Sustainable Development Goals, hosted on April 29 by the Austrian Development Agency, the spokesman said.

On April 29, the deputy secretary-general will travel to Kathmandu, Nepal, to meet senior government officials and to visit areas affected by the 2015 earthquake, he said.

On May 2, he will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, to meet senior Government officials, he said, adding that on May 3, he will travel to Ho Chi Minh City to visit drought-affected areas.

The deputy secretary-general will return to New York following that visit, he added. Enditem
