Three DR Congo soldiers killed in confrontation with Rwandese rebels

Three soldiers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) were killed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning during a fighting between the army and the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels at a military camp in Katale, east of the country.

"A FARDC camp was attacked on Tuesday at mid-night. The FDLR were trying to boost their supplies due to the fear of an imminent attack against them from the Rwandese army," Omar Kavota, the coordinator of the Center for Promotion of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights (CEPADHO), said Wednesday.

"The fighting lasted for an hour, residents of Buvunga who spoke to CEPADHO revealed," Kavota said, adding that the "provisional death toll is three FARDC soldiers were killed and two others were seriously injured. No information was available regarding the death toll on the enemy side."

On Tuesday, the DR Congo army confirmed the entry of Rwandese army on the Congolese territory in search of FDLR rebels in the east of the country. Enditem
