The following are highlights of leading Nigerian media outlets on Thursday.

-- Expectations that the 2016 budget would be signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari appeared far off on Wednesday after the more than three hours meeting of the Federal Executive Council did not seem to address the grey areas of disagreement with the lawmakers.

The Budget and National Planning Minister, Udoma Udo Udoma, who was answering questions from State House correspondents during a media briefing on Wednesday, said the Executive was still talking with the National Assembly members over the matter, but refused to give details. (The Guardian)

-- Valuables worth millions of naira were destroyed in the fire that gutted the automobile spare parts section of the Ladipo Market in Mushin, Lagos on Wednesday.

The fire, which started about 3.30 a.m., affected over 50 shops where various automobile spare parts were stored. (Daily Trust)

-- Six contractors, who allegedly played prominent roles in the over 1 trillion naira (more than 5 billion U.S. dollars) railway construction and rehabilitation contracts, are to refund over 2.5 billion naira (more than 12.5 million USD) to the federal coffers.

This was disclosed, Wednesday, at the continuation of hearing of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee probing the award and execution of contracts. (Vanguard) Endit
