Bomb scare on Indian flight turns out hoax

Xinhua, April 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The authorities on Wednesday took a domestic flight carrying 125 passengers and six crew members to an isolation bay in western Indian state of Gujarat following a bomb scare, officials said.

The scare, however, turned out to be a hoax.

The flight belonging to a private airlines Jet Airways from Mumbai was taken to the isolation bay immediately after its landing at Ahmedabad airport.

Security officials rushed bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog squads to the flight.

"Soon after the plane landed, it was immediately taken to the airport's isolation bay," an official said.

"All the passengers were deplaned and the plane was subjected to thorough checking by the security agencies but nothing objectionable was found on the plane."

The flight was delayed for two hours.

A statement later issued by Jet Airways said the plane was thoroughly checked and cleared.

"Jet Airways flight S2 4738 Ahmedabad to Mumbai had received a security alert. The aircraft was thoroughly inspected by the security agencies and the flight with 125 guests and six crew on-board has now been cleared for its onward operations," read the statement issued by Jet Airways following the scare.

Local media reports said police had detained a passenger for questioning. Endit
