Thirteen killed in clashes between army, militia in eastern DR Congo

Thirteen people were killed on Tuesday in clashes between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) army and Mai Mai Simba militia in Central-Biakato locality, Mambasa territory, east of the country.

A local administrator told Xinhua 12 militia fighters and one soldier were killed, and three soldiers were injured in the fighting.

"The army also managed to recover two AK47 rifles and two rockets," the local administrator said.

Army positions were attacked on Tuesday morning at around 4 a.m.in Biakatumai locality. The militia then headed to Central-Biakato locality before being dislodged by the army.

Calm was restored on Tuesday afternoon in Central-Biakato after the fighting. All activities in the area were paralysed due to the fighting. Endit
