Saudi Arabia admitted donations to Malaysian PM: reports

Xinhua, April 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Saudi Arabia's government has admitted that huge donations went into Malaysian Prime Minister's account came from the Middle East kingdom, Malaysian media reported Friday.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir told reports that his government was aware of the donation and it was "a genuine donation with nothing expected in return", according Malaysia's state news agency Bernama.

Al-Jubeir said the Saudi government was aware that Malaysia's attorney general had thoroughly investigated the matter and found no wrongdoing.

"So, as far as we are concerned, the matter is closed," he was quoted as saying.

Al-Jubeir earlier held talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on the sidelines of the Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Turkey.

Najib has been under pressure following allegations emerged last year that hundreds of millions U.S. dollars have been transferred into his personal account.

The Prime Minister has denied any wrongdoing. Malaysia's attorney general announced earlier this year that the funds were legal donations from the Middle East and no offences were found committed by Najib. Enditem
