Tokyo stocks' winning streak ends as investors secure profits

Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as investors securing profits brought an end to a three-day run of closing highs.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 63.02 points, or 0.37 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 16,848.03.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.95 points, or 0.73 percent, to finish at 1,361.40.

The markets here were not adversely affected by the overnight quakes in Japan's southwest, brokers here said, although some bluechips like Toyota and Honda in the region had to shutter their operations.

Notable decliners on the last trading day of the week comprised mining, bank, and electric appliance-linked stocks.

The day's turnover was 2,059.2 billion U.S. dollars (18.78 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
