Earthquake damages two pagodas in northwest Myanmar

A strong earthquake hit northwestern Myanmar on Wednesday and damaged two pagodas in the region.

The Htees, which are set up at the top of two pagodas located in Salingyi township, Yinmar Pin Province and Chaung Oo township, Monwya Province of Sagaing region, fell down due to the earthquake.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted at 20:25 local time (1355 GMT) with an epicenter 68 km east of Kalay township, Sagaing region, and near Chindwin river bank. The depth of the quake was 122 km.

There was no major damage to houses around the quake-hit region. Detailed reports for casualties were not available yet.

The quake was felt in Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Kyauk, Monywa, Magway, Minbu, Nyaung Oo, Mintat, Phalum and Kyauk Phyu, according to the Department of Myanmar Meteorology and Hydrology. Endit
