Croatian president says Balkan migrant route to remain closed

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Western Balkan migrant route would remain closed until the destination countries make it clear whether they would take in the migrants or not, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Wednesday.

Life of migrants in camps was difficult and they were puzzled, Grabar-Kitarovic said after visiting a temporary refugee reception center in Gevgelia, Macedonia, adding "I think we all owe them answers," local media reported.

The European Union and its member countries must send clear messages what is to be done, otherwise the migration wave would not stop, she added.

The Croatian president and her Macedonian and Slovenian counterparts Gjorge Ivanov and Borut Pahor together visited the refugee center where about 140 migrants are currently staying.

"Croatia would continue assisting Macedonia in guarding the border," she said. Enditem
