Ghana's March inflation inches up to 19.2 pct

Ghana's inflation in March inched up 0.7 percentage points from 18.5 percent in February to 19.2 percent, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) announced here on Wednesday.
"The food inflation rate for March was 8.3 percent, same rate as recorded in February, while the non-food inflation rate was 25.7 percent, compared with 24.5 percent recorded in February," said Government Statistician Philomena Nyarko.
In the food group, seven sub-groups which constituted the main price drivers, recorded inflation rates higher than the group's average rate of 8.3 percent.
These are mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (12.6 percent); and coffee, tea and cocoa (10.5 percent).
The rest are vegetables (10.3 percent); sugar, jam, honey chocolate and confectionery (9.9 percent); food products (9.4 percent); fruits (8.9 percent); and oils and fats (8.9 percent).
For the non-food group, on the other hand, four sub-groups that constituted the main price drivers, recorded year-on-year inflation rates higher than the group's average of 25.7 percent.
"These were transport, which recorded the highest inflation rate of 40.0 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, with 39.6 percent; education with (27.7 percent ); and recreation and culture (26.7 percent)," said Nyarko. Enditem
