Jordanian Security forces Wednesday raided the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters and shut it down.
"Police forces surrounded their headquarters and evicted it from all employees," Muath Khawaldeh, Muslim Brotherhood spokesperson told Xinhua Wednesday.
The group received a letter from Amman's governor conveying the decision to shut down its headquarters, he said.
"We will resort to the law and this decision is unfortunate and surprising," said Khawaldeh.
The Muslim Brotherhood was also recently banned from holding its internal elections, he added.
"We decided to go ahead with our internal elections that were slated for April as usual. Maybe this decision was taken in reaction to our insistence to go ahead with the elections," said Khawaldeh.
Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood formally ended its affiliation with its Egypt-based parent organization earlier this year.
The Jordanian branch's decision-making body, or Shura Council, decided to amend its bylaws, removing "affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo" from the movement's description. Endit
