Abbas' younger brother admitted into Israeli hospital

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' younger brother is hospitalized in critical condition in an Israeli hospital, a hospital official confirmed to Xinhua on Wednesday.

Israeli media reported that Abu Louai, 76, who lives in Qatar, arrived at Israel in secrecy.

He was admitted on Monday in a severe condition to the oncology department of the Assuta Medical Center, a private hospital in northern Tel Aviv, said an official with the hospital. His wife and son are with him, the official added.

His admission came amidst tensed times in Israel and the West Bank, with almost daily violence that has claimed the lives of at least 190 Palestinians and 28 Israelis.

Palestinians with complex health conditions frequently need to attend Israeli hospitals due to lack of medical infrastructures in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

In October, Abbas' brother-in-law underwent life-saving heart surgery in Tel Aviv, according to Hebrew media.

Israel occupied the Palestinian territory in the 1967 Mideast War and has been controlling it ever since, despite repeated condemnations by the international community. Endit
