Russia sees hope for oil output freeze deal

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russia sees hope for a deal among the world's leading oil-exporting countries on freezing output regardless of Iran's plans to add more barrels to the market, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

Peskov was quoted by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti as saying that "there is hope" that an agreement on the freezing of oil production can be achieved in Doha on April 17, regardless of resistance from Iran.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Saudi Petroleum Minister Ali al-Naimi also discussed prospects for an oil production freezing over the phone, Peskov said.

At least 16 nations including the world's two largest crude oil producers will gather in Doha on April 17 to discuss freezing output at January levels in order to stabilize an oversupplied oil market. Endi
