1 soldier killed, 47 wounded in car bomb attack in SE Turkey

Xinhua, April 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

A car bombing attack rocked a military post in southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir late Monday night, killing one soldier of the Turkish security forces and wounding 47 people, including 39 soldiers, said a Turkish military statement on Tuesday.

The attack by the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) militants hit a Gendarmerie post in Hani District of Diyarbakir, said the statement issued by the Geneeral Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, adding that the Turkish soldiers clashed with PKK militants after the attack.

The wounded soldiers in the attack were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, said the statement.

Over 300 members from Turkey's security forces and thousands of PKK members were killed since last July during armed confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq where the PKK are based.

Ankara holds the PKK responsible for waging a separatist war since 1984.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
