Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five police officers died Thursday after they were attacked by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the Turkish province of Mardin, Dogan News reported.

Among the killed officers, three were killed by PKK militants in the Dicle neighborhood of Nusaybin and the other two by explosives planted by PKK militants in the same district.

Around 13 PKK militants were killed Wednesday in anti-terror campaigns by security forces in the southeastern provinces of Sirnak, Mardin and Hakkari, according to the Turkish General Staff's statement Thursday.

Over 300 members from Turkey's security forces and thousands of PKK members were killed since last July during armed confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq where the PKK are based.

Ankara holds the PKK responsible for waging a separatist war since 1984.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
