Thai princess visits Confucius Institute in Kyrgyzstan

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Thai Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited a Confucius Institute here Thursday after meeting with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev and his wife.

In Kyrgyz National University Confucius Institute, the princess visited the language lab, the reading room and corridors with photos, learning about the personnel training and development of the institute in Kyrgyzstan.

In the activity room, the students and teachers got a pleasant surprise when Princess Sirindhorn picked up a calligraphy brush and wrote "Knowledge Is Infinite" in Chinese characters.

The princess also recited the famous poem "Thoughts On A Quiet Night," which was written by Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) poet Li Bai, to encourage Kyrgyz young people to learn Chinese.

Deriving its name from the renowned ancient Chinese educator and philosopher Confucius (551-479 BC), the Confucius Institutes are non-profit institutions that aim to promote Chinese language and culture abroad.

Thursday's visit to Kyrgyzstan was the first for the Thai princess. Endi
