U.S. aircraft to fly over Slovakia between April, May: ministry

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Slovak Defence Ministry said that U.S. military aircraft will fly over Slovakia between April and May, adding that the flyovers are part of a planned and coordinated exercise by Slovakia's NATO partners.

"Collective security in central Europe is crucial. Mutual coordination of procedures as well as familiarity with terrain allow for the effective deployment of allied units in a crisis situation, whether it be of a military or non-military character. That's why these training activities over the territories of NATO-member states are very commonplace," announced Slovak Defence Ministry State Secretary Ivan Macovsky on Thursday.

The United States has been granted permission to fly Hercules C-130 aircraft over Slovakia at low altitudes.

"Proper diplomatic authorisation has been issued by the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry in coordination with the Slovak Armed Forces," added Macovsky. The flights, which should take place in the north and centre of Slovakia, will be monitored. Endit
