Myanmar and Italy are seeking promotion of bilateral cooperation, especially in agriculture, food security, small- and medium-sized enterprises, tourism and cultural heritage protection, official media reported Thursday.

It was discussed during a meeting between Myanmar new President U Htin Kyaw and visiting Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni Silveri who has come to the Southeast Asian nation after Myanmar new government took office.

In September last year, the Italian government pledged a total of 22.5 million U.S. dollars loan for development projects in Myanmar which cover infrastructure projects in 215 village tracts in some states and regions to expand access to electricity, water, sanitation services and healthcare.

The program is one of several rural development projects being implemented by the Myanmar government, including the Emerald Green project, which seeks to raise incomes and alleviate poverty in rural villages around the country. Endit
