2 Taliban weapon facilitators captured in Afghanistan

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Afghan security forces have captured two Taliban weapon facilitators in the country's eastern province of Khost, the provincial police chief said on Thursday.

"The arrest took place after police and intelligence service personnel carried out a special operation in Chargottai locality of Ali Shir district Wednesday night," General Faizullah Ghairrat told reporters here.

Some 74 handguns, 30 AK-47 assault rifles, more than 3,000 rounds of bullets and two anti-vehicle landmines were among the weapons seized following the raid, the police official added.

The security forces also confiscated a minibus during the raid.

In addition, the joint security force also detained two Taliban mine-making experts and three suspected militants during separate raids in surrounding areas of the province, 150 km southeast of Afghan capital on Wednesday, according to Ghairrat.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as fighting season is drawing near in the Asian country.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments. Enditem
