Zambian industries urges mandatory inspection on livestock, fish imports

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia's livestock and fisheries industries on Wednesday called for mandatory inspection of imports of livestock and fish products.

A joint statement issued after a meeting of associations in the industries said the inspection was meant to ensure the imports meet the country's sanitary standards.

It asked the government to set up a unit responsible for carrying out the inspection annually.

Officials from the associations claim that "most livestock exporters were not meeting the required standards", which they say has caused health risks in the country.

The one-day meeting was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. Endit
