(Sports) Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei make through first round of Badminton Malaysia Open

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malaysian home favorite Lee Chong Wei and other big names like Lin Dan and Chen Long made through the first round of Badminton Malaysia Open on Wednesday.

Lee Chong Wei shrugged off poor recent form to dismiss Japan's Takuma Ueda 21-11 and 21-8 in the first round of men's singles. His fellow compatriot Chong Yee Han failed to surprise local fans by losing to China's Lin Dan in two straight sets. Top seed Chen Long from China defeated German shuttler Marc Zwiebler in a late evening game.

In Women's Singles, China's Li Xuerui, Wang Yihan and Wang Shixian all made it to the round of 16, as well as their major competitor, first seed Carolina Marin from Spain.

Team China suffered an unexpected blow in Women's Doubles, as defending champion and first seed Luo Ying and Luo Yu were crashed out of the tournament by Japanese pair Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito.

Three Chinese Men's Doubles pairs and Four Chinese Mixed Doubles pairs advanced to the next round respectively. Enditem
