Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei sail through Badminton Malaysia Open

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Home favorite Lee Chong Wei and other big names like Lin Dan and Chen Long made through the first round of the Badminton Malaysia Open here on Wednesday.

In the men's singles, Lee shrugged off poor recent form to dismiss Takuma Ueda of Japan 21-11 and 21-8, while his fellow compatriot Chong Yee Han failed to surprise local fans, losing to Lin Dan of China in two straight sets. Top seed Chen Long from China defeated German Marc Zwiebler in a late evening game.

In women's singles, China's Li Xuerui, Wang Yihan and Wang Shixian all made it to the round of 16, as well as their major competitor, top seed Carolina Marin of Spain.

However, China suffered a blow in the women's doubles, as defending champions Luo Ying and Luo Yu crashed out to Japanese pair Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito.

Three Chinese men's doubles pairs and four Chinese mixed doubles pairs advanced to the next round respectively. Endi
