8 militants killed during police operations in Pakistan

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has killed eight militants during two intelligence based operations in Pakistan's east Lahore and southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday, local Urdu media reported.

Geo TV reported that the CID killed six militants associated with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan during a search operation in Saggian Bridge area of Lahore, the capital city of the country's east Punjab province.

The police launched the operation on an intelligence tip-off regarding presence of the militants in the area.

During the search operation, the militants hiding in a house opened fire at the police, engaging them into a gun-battle which left six militants killed while four others managed to flee.

The CID recovered four to five kilograms of explosives, four detonators, two Kalashnikovs, four pistols and three motorbikes from the house.

The operation against the militants was kicked off on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, following a deadly attack at a public park in Lahore which left 75 people killed and over 300 others injured last month.

In a separate operation, the CID killed two IS-related militants and arrested four others in Gulshan-e-Maymar area of Karachi, the capital city of the country's south Sindh province.

Police said that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the custody of the arrested militants who were shifted to some undisclosed place for investigations. Enditem
